The song is from Chitralekha---which is a story of a court dancer. Emperor Chandragupta Maurya's knight and arny chief Beejgupt visits Chitralekha, the main dancer, poetess in Emperor's court. Both fall in love with each other.
The movie's great screenplay, sets, costumes by Bhanu Athaiyya are worth experiencing. It is a philosophical drama aptly supported by poet Sahir Ludhiyanwi. Sahir speaks some universal truths through few lines like,
Sansaar se bhage phirate ho, Bhagwanko tum kya paoge
Is log ko bhi apanana sake , us log me bhi pachataoge
Ye pap hai kya ye punya hai kya
Reetonpar dharm ki mohore hai
Har yugmen badlate dharmonko
Kaise aadarsh banaaoge......
The movie's music composed by Roshan caught the mood correctly, the emotions on display were properly projected through music, orchestration, and dances. The medieval periods in cultural history of India were rich in all types of arts. The film rightly shows that too. It was a well researched project a hindi film of 1964!
